Email accounts

The Office of Graduate Studies (OGS) has started transitioning current graduate students from their uoit.ca email accounts to UOITnet. Thursday, October 29, 2015 is the last day OGS will send official university communications to graduate students’ uoit.ca accounts.

Note: From September 2015 onwards, new graduate students will only be issued a UOITnet account (exceptions for teaching assistants and research assistants - see additional information included below).

Information for graduate students who start their program in September 2015 or thereafter

New students can access their UOITnet email accounts upon accepting their offer. You will need a temporary network password to access your account. This will be emailed to you by the OGS. Please follow the steps outlined on the IT Services website to log in to your email for the first time.

Information for graduate students who started their program prior to September 2015

Current graduate students with an active uoit.ca email account will continue to have access until graduation. However, Thursday, October 29, 2015 is the last day OGS will send official university communications to graduate students’ uoit.ca accounts. Upon graduation, your uoit.ca account will be deactivated. Prior to graduation, please ensure you back up any important email communications and ensure your contacts are aware that your account will become inactive. You should provide your contacts with an alternate email address. Once your account is deactivated, you will no longer be able to gain access, and email forwarding to another account will not be possible. Your UOITnet email will become your alumni account.

Information for graduate students who graduated prior to September 2015

Students who graduated from their programs prior to September 2015 will continue to have access to their uoit.ca account for two years after their last registration. After the two-year period, uoit.ca accounts will be deactivated. Prior to this time, please ensure you back up any important email communications and ensure your contacts are aware that your account will become inactive. You should provide your contacts with an alternate email address. Once your account is deactivated, you will no longer be able to gain access, and email forwarding to other accounts will not be possible. Please use your UOITnet email as an alumni account.

Teaching assistants (TAs) and research assistants (RAs)

TAs and RAs employed by the university will have a uoit.ca email account. This will be used for employment-related purposes. This email account will normally remain active for the standard length of a student's program plus one term.

Why are we moving to UOITnet?

The decision to move to UOITnet was made to ensure graduate students have access to all of the benefits offered by this service:

  • A large number of useful applications
  • Unlimited document storage
  • Ease of accessibility from mobile devices
  • Consistency for undergraduate students continuing their studies at UOIT
  • No expiry following graduation
